Server troubles!

Well, we never did get around to moving the server to a new host, and now we've run into trouble again!

We think the server has crashed (possibly due to a faulty disk), since we can't remote-desktop to it. We'll request a reboot as soon as possible!

It surprises me that in years before, the whole server seemed to work without fault.

Now, there are many hiccups.

Is this mostly due to a lack of funding towards IG, which means that there are not enough funds to buy updated, and/or replacement parts for the servers?

I was just wondering if there was anything that the community could do to help.. you know... if they wanted to.

bingo.

no love = no lans = no money = no server.

So what do we need to get ourselves back on track?

The staff have put a lot of time and there own money into IG over the years and I think its time we all chipped in to help. The interest in LAN's has died a death probably due to ADSL and hence the only real income.

IG obviously needs a new server not just a new HDD for now.

So come on guys have a couple less pints this weekend and chuck YOUR community a fiver or a tenner, if everyone did we would be back on top form in no time.

Lack of funds is obviously a large part of the problem, but there's also the fact that nobody has the time or wants to commit to running it anymore.

Island Gamers needs new blood! We need people who are willing to run LANs, and maybe competitions and other stuff. We tinkered with the idea of IGTV a while back, which would mainly be video reviews and such. It obviously didn't work. :p

There's alot that IG could be, but the existing staff have either no time or interest anymore.

I'm willing to give the website a go. Problem is I don't go anywhere near .net stuff. If you're willing for a bit of a rewrite, or a complete redesign, let me know.

I think the time has come for a new website personally (I do not speak for any of the other staff). IG.net V2 has served us well, but it is time to refresh IG and that should include having a new, or at least updated website.

But there are many things which have never been finished in v2, and we shouldn't fall into the same situation again! :)

Maybe now is the time to consider such things. :)

Im not one for re-inventing the wheel, and in that vane, i think its worth considering using a CMS. I personally use Joomla, but also know that wordpress and others have the abilly to do what we need IF someone has the time to develop it properly.
